Signs at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo
Signs at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo
The idea for these signs was inspired by the shape of the museum building. The signs consist of three types: all uppercase letters for places of prime importance, such as the exhibition rooms; upper and lowercase letters for places of secondary importance; and lowercase letters only for other places, such as the restrooms. We decided to use this notation to give people an idea of the importance of each place in the museum simply by glancing at the signs. This method of display is often used abroad, but is rather uncommon in Japan.
