Signage, Wayfinding & Furniture for the Bristol Museum & Art Gallery

The signage for the Bristol Museum & Art Gallery takes the form of leaning timber panels that have minimum impact on the listed building stonework and provide a contemporary layer in the Edwardian interior. To improve understanding of the split level arrangement, wording such as ‘up to’ and ‘through to’ was introduced, creating an intuitive flow through the building and avoiding awkward terminology such as first upper and first lower. A map and directory are provided in prominent positions, and threshold panels help visitors negotiate the individual galleries. An information desk, leaflet rack and display panels were also designed as part ofthe overall language.
