My Black is Beautiful - Unbecoming

For Black women, beauty has always required that they meet an expectation. For instance, they’re often told they are most beautiful when their hair is 'done up'. The Unbecoming campaign sought to inspire a new conversation. Instead of showing Black women when their hair is 'done up', the films turn a vulnerable moment into a moment of strength and confidence – when Black women are undoing their hair. The Unbecoming films celebrate the beauty in Black women’s hair and all parts of their womanhood that don’t meet society's expectations.
