Musica Improvvisa

Musica Improvvisa by Die Schachtel is a ten-CD box featuring ten groundbreaking Italian improvised improv/electronic/jazz bands and artists. The challenge was to create an innovative visual language, able to convey the sense of vibrant energy and aural displacement provided by the radical music. Both design and typography have been achieved through an ‘improvisation’ technique. We started with hand-drawn sketches done outside of any structured framework, in unusual places or contexts. The sketches were then assembled by looking for spontaneous juxtapositions, which eventually generated the final designs. The hand-drawn typography was created in a similar fashion.
