Lucid Life - Marama Ora

Inspired by coral’s symbiotic relationships, a contemporary living material encapsulating bioluminescent micro-algae, which emits light in response to touch was developed. In collaboration with Polynesian artisans and the Francis Crick Institute, traditional knowledge and science came together to co-create a series of artifacts demonstrating how living materials can reconnect us to nature through intercultural and interspecies collaboration. The drum, swimsuit, and collier created highlight the potential of biotechnology as a tool for decolonisation and regeneration.
