Living Fabric

According to the United Nations Environment Programme, more than 1,000 significant land-based oil spills caused by terrorist attacks occur each year in Colombia, causing irreversible damage to ecosystems, contaminating millions of hectares of soil. In collaboration with the University of the Andes, we created Living Fabric, the first textile that cleans oil spills from nature. Crafted from fique plant fibres, it contains colonies of Lysinibacillus Sphaericus, and when it encounters oil, the bacteria feed on it, absorbing the contamination and helping restore the soil in less than 30 days.
