Little White Lies 42: Lawless
Little White Lies 42: Lawless
The design ethos for issue 42 was inspired by John Hillcoat’s 1920s drama, ‘Lawless’. The characters in this film inhabit the mountains of Virginia – a place grappling with the idea of modernity, underpinned by folklore and myth. Little White Lies Creative Director Paul Willoughby explored naive art processes connected with the era and natural elements of the landscape. The decision to hand- carve the images out of plywood was a stylistic and aesthetic one, but the physical action itself was important. It was an exercise in suffering: splinters, blisters, cuts and strains.
