This illustration represents a fictitious near-future landscape of Tokyo as a parallel world. Edo is the ancient name of pre-modern Tokyo. It is an illusion that such a landscape might have appeared in the future 200 years later if the big cities of Japan continued to develop without being influenced by Western civilization.
