There is a local saying that everyone is "driftwood," meaning that people come from all corners of the world, like wood washed up on the beach. Cheung Chau is a multicultural island, originally inhabited mainly by fishermen from different cities in mainland China. Cheung Chau is like a microcosm of Hong Kong, and the stories of its residents reflect the stories of all Hong Kong people.
