Americanana

The title of the group exhibition ‘Americanana’ playfully references the use of the past in the present, as contemporary artists draw from traditional American sources. Hunter College tasked us to design a catalogue that captured the spirit of the show. We explored the theme by considering contrasts and connections between early Americana and post-1960 American art. Printed on textured lightweight French butcher paper, the poster/catalogue progresses from a dense B+W type-filled page to a minimal 4C poster in a mash-up homage to Civil War broadsides, Pop Art silkscreened posters and 80s downtown DIY catalogues.
