A day in my life by Marsha Meredith

As Creative Director at Aesop, Marsha Meredith leads one of the most creatively rewarding lives in the industry. Here she offers us an intimate look at a day in her life.

I’m home in Brooklyn, New York and the snow has been falling softly since daybreak, which means it’s a snow day, and we couldn’t get to the office. I woke at 4am, with last night’s calls on my mind, beginning to turn some solutions over. At 6am, and a few coffees later, I take my first Skype call with a film director in Amsterdam to discuss a possible installation in Aesop’s home town of Melbourne. By 10am, with more coffees and correspondence consumed and responded to, I join my London-based CEO for our weekly chat. We discuss the future of our content as well as key projects and opportunities, and at some point the discussion meanders into whether everything would be in black and white if the creative team had their way.

As the day progresses, I discuss budgets with our Creative Services Director; review current projects with the (fabulous) creative team, ranging from upcoming product launch campaigns to regional partnerships; look at our future staffing plans; speak to a photographer in London; and then finally Skype with our Head of Visual Merchandising who’s currently in Korea. By 7pm, the sun is setting in New York and our Head Office in Melbourne is stirring (evident from my inbox activity). A typical day at Aesop is not bound by time or geography.

But today is not a typical day; I’m housebound with the snow falling, but at least it’s given me a moment to write this.
