My enduring love affair with copywriting began around age four with an ad for washing powder on my father's office floor at BBDO in Johannesburg. Years of rebellious high school denial led me to read Fine Art at Rhodes University, which happily also drew me into my other passion - radio presenting. My first real job interview, for junior art director, was at Ogilvy, Joburg. And they needed a junior copywriter. "Here," says the creative director. "Crack this kids' television brief this afternoon and you've got the job." Eighteen years of copywriting maniacal devotion ensued. I've worked at some terrific agencies along the way in South Africa and the UK, above-the-line, below-the-line, direct, radio, digital content and healthcare.
