Burka
Wood Pencil / Graphic Design / Point of Sale / 2009
One of the cover stories in the January 2009 issue of Marie Claire South Africa explored what life is like for Western expatriates living in Dubai, a society which, despite its liberal reputation, is nonetheless governed by strict Islamic rules. To draw attention to the article, we persuaded the magazine to add an extra cover – with a die-cut – revealing only the eyes of the cover model beneath; an image which resembles the veiled headgear of a woman wearing a burka. The copy reads, 'Dubai: Expats under Sharia law'.
