Net zero strategy
Our awards and education programmes back the industry’s move to net zero, and we’re leading by example with a strategy to reduce carbon emissions by 90% from a 2023 baseline.
The role of creativity in achieving Net Zero
At D&AD, we believe in the power of creativity to drive meaningful change. The creative industries have a unique role in shaping perceptions, influencing behaviors and inspiring action. Through our awards, education programs, and events, we aim to celebrate and promote work that supports a more sustainable and equitable world. As we look to amplify the potential of creativity to drive change, we must also practice what we preach. Our net zero strategy sets out our ambitious commitments to reduce our carbon emissions by 90% by 2040 (from a 2023 baseline year).
D&AD brings together the best creative minds from across the globe and collaboration is a key part of what makes our awards and festival so special. Our global footprint is also one of the biggest challenges we face in our commitment to net zero. In the short term, with consultation from our members, we will explore and test new ways of working to find innovative solutions to reduce our emissions without compromising the impact of our work. Most importantly, we will regularly update on our progress, challenges, and learnings. In doing so, we hope to foster a culture of transparency and accountability across the creative industries.
Our commitment
We have measured our emissions across all operations and set a 2023 baseline. D&AD is committed to reaching net-zero emissions, following the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) and the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol. Setting a credible carbon target is important and we believe that any carbon target should be aligned with science to provide a meaningful goal within the context of the climate emergency.

Our key principles
- Carbon – measure the carbon footprint of all D&AD’s operations and activities and use results to inform action to reduce impact. Encourage and facilitate the industry to measure and reduce its impact.
- Community – use D&AD’s platform as an effective way to educate and inspire the industry in its shared opportunities and responsibilities in tackling the climate crisis. Support the shift to an industry that makes moderation, not overconsumption, feel aspirational.
- Celebrate – share the progress of the industry, and D&AD, openly and transparently. Celebrate and promote key industry successes and reward work that has a positive impact on people and the planet.
