Unnumbered Sparks

Unnumbered Sparks is an aerial sculpture that was suspended over the Vancouver waterfront in celebration of the 2014 TED Conference. Created entirely with lightweight textiles by artist Janet Echelman, the sculpture came alive at night through a 10 million pixel Chrome browser window projected into the sky. Visitors to the waterfront could use any mobile web browser to paint light onto the sculpture, influencing its colours and patterns. The project entwined public art and the web on an unprecedented scale. Thousands of Vancouver residents gathered each night to experience it, including, at its peak, over 500 simultaneous participants.
