TKTS and Redevelopment of Father Duffy Square
TKTS and Redevelopment of Father Duffy Square
The project stems from an international design competition held to re-create New York's iconic TKTS booth in Duffy Square, the northern triangle of Times Square. While the brief simply requested a new booth, our design expanded the booth's function to also be a public gathering point and viewing platform for Times Square. The design has two parts: translucent red steps that terrace upwards from the ground inviting the public onboard for a new perspective of Times Square; and the booth itself which is neatly tucked beneath. With analogies to the 'red carpet' of Broadway, the red steps give the booth a memorable and fitting presence in Times Square, which strengthens the position of TKTS as a New York cultural institution.
