The Whitney Review of New Writing

The Whitney Review of New Writing is an independent magazine of literary criticism, founded by Whitney Mallett and designed by Immanuel Yang. Since 2023, six issues have developed a bold, text-forward identity shaped by urgency and constraint. Color is used sparingly and with intent; poster-like covers on newsprint create visual impact through overprinting, off-kilter grids, inverted text, and modular patterns. Inside, black-and-white printing, tight composition, and bold pull quotes balance density with readability, foregrounding text as both content and form.
