Stand Up to Cancer
Stand Up to Cancer
Right now, more people in the UK are surviving cancer than dying from it. To promote a night of fundraising for Stand up to Cancer, Channel 4 wanted to encapsulate this message of defiance by using the language of cancer against it. The animated film pays homage to disaster movies. Except, here, the world being destroyed is that of cancer. And it's humans causing the chaos. The cells live in a world of endless construction, reflecting cancer's ability to spread relentlessly. But the world is quickly overcome and its population wiped out by a lethal blue substance. In the end, we learn this has all taken place inside a laboratory Petri dish, with a human scientist introducing the cancer colony to a familiar blue drug.
