Rubbish

'Rubbish' tips the idea of what a magazine should be on its head and celebrates the consequences. There were three specific design references which the client provided: favourite 'Beano' annuals from the 60s and 70s, a 19th-Century French horticultural newspaper and 'New Yorker' illustrations from the 20s (for the 'Bugle' newspaper section), plus a collection of children's books and annuals (for illustrations and font reference). As with the content, the design brief was to let loose, doodle a bit, break the rules and have some fun, thereby gently mocking the structured, often laboured way in which fashion magazines are put together. The result is schizophrenic, surreal, Monty Python-esque and more than a bit bonkers.
