KyoSensha
KyoSensha
KyoSensha is a boldface, handwritten brush-style typeface based on the Edomoji Senja script. Edomoji are Japanese lettering styles that were used for advertising and popular culture, such as sumo and kabuki, in the Edo period (1603–1868). The challenge was to develop these Senja characters, originally written with thick brushes, into 6 weights, from fine-brush to thick-brush styles, something no one had tried before. By emphasising the characteristics of a brush-style script, we created a vivid, dynamic and sophisticated typeface.
