Journey
Journey
This newspaper accompanied a travelling installation organised by the Helen Bamber Foundation. The aim was to highlight the plight of trafficked women who have been enslaved as sex workers. It tells the story of a young girl’s dream to come to the West to start a new life. She is instead befriended, duped, imprisoned and abused, forced to service up to 40 men a day. The story is transcribed from an interview with a young girl known only as Elena – a pseudonym to protect her true identity. She escaped from her captors and gave evidence to the police, drawing attention to this shameful and despicable trade. The event and publication helped raise awareness of this issue among the government, media, police and the public.
