Istanbul The City and the Sultan
Istanbul The City and the Sultan
‘Istanbul: The City and the Sultan’ shows art treasures from the Ottoman dynasty. The city’s most distinguishing features have been incorporated into the exhibition: light, sound, architecture and ornamentation. 1200sqm of printed partition flag cloths and 700sqm of Turkish carpets are structuring elements that invite the visitor into the world of Istanbul. Visitors can wander through this rich, historic city and immerse themselves in its ambience, enjoying several characteristic experiences such as a hamam, bazaar, mosque, cinema, harem and coffeehouse. Visitors are also accompanied by fragments of old and new films and sound bites from Istanbul. The objects, the church as a whole, and all singular volumes are illuminated in a theatrical way.
