Credon Centre Entrance Lobby and Lift
Credon Centre Entrance Lobby and Lift
The requirement for a new Disability Discrimination Act compliant lift at the Credon Centre, a teacher training centre in Newham, was taken as an opportunity to open up and upgrade the entrance to the building. The existing brick lobby and steps were demolished. A new glass lift enclosure was added and an illuminated galvanised screen wall introduced to clearly mark the entrance and aid access. The lift shaft is decorated with a motif using the basic building blocks of learning: an enamelled super-graphic alphabet on the outer face together with small vinyl numerals on the inner face. The combination creates a skin that appears solid or translucent depending on daylight or artificial lighting conditions.
