Better with Less / Stretching inner part

Last year’s winning design in the Metsä Board Better with Less – Design Challenge, a global competition for package design, is a corrugated cardboard inlay for product packaging that removes the need for plastic bubble wrap. Like bubble wrap, this “Stretching inner part” conforms to the shape of the product and keeps the product in place. This innovation, by Helsinki based designer Iiro Numminen, has the potential to impact the multi-billion-dollar packaging industry with a design solution that serves to protect the product while enhancing the consumer experience.
