Austerlitz

Typeface family Austerlitz resembles a Didot, but it does not follow the same principles. Counterforms are rounded without the effects of rigorous counterforms, the stress is not completely vertical, and there are traces of the written letterforms. The serifs are attached by a curve and the serifed italics are innovative for the time. The Série 16 and the variant 17, with its extended descenders, draw on Émile Javal's physiological theories. In the Gros and Affiche versions, the elegant shapes and contrasts reference the beauty of a late Didot.
