9/11 One Day, Ten Years

For our special issue on 9/11, we chose, as a format, an encyclopaedia and a design scheme that allowed us to provide a full consideration of that world-changing day and its aftermath. The event, of course, was one of history’s most photographed; the photo department played that familiar symphony in a new and surprising way, using many images that had never been seen before. The magazine’s design was a rich, modern take on the reference form. Extensive marginalia added depth and nuance, as well as endless visual fascination, which was the intent.
