Klynok

Klynok (meaning “saber blade” in Ukrainian) is a shapeshifting type system inspired by Ukrainian Cossack Baroque heritage. It draws from the image of the Cossack-kharakternyk, a figure from Ukrainian folklore believed to transform into a wolf. Based on deep historical research of 16–17th-century Ukrainian manuscripts, the typeface explores historical Ukrainian letterforms and poses the question: What would the organic development of Ukrainian Cyrillic look like without the 1708 imperial civil script reform? Klynok includes Display, Text, and Italic styles in both Ukrainian Cyrillic and Latin.
