MIT Media Lab Identity

Award: Graphite Pencil

Graphite Pencil / Branding / Branding Schemes/Large Organisation / 2015

MIT Media Lab was seeking a timeless symbol that could simultaneously suggest its enduring influence and its commitment to continuous reinvention. Pentagram Design New York used a grid to generate a simple ML monogram that serves as the Media Lab's logo. Using the same grid, the identity was extended to each of the 23 research groups that lie at the heart of the lab's activity, resulting in an interrelated system of glyphs that establishes a fixed identity for the Media Lab, while celebrating the diversity of activity that goes on there.
