New Blood Entry — Bolo. Banking for the Illiterate.

Award: White Pencil

Digital McKinsey / 2018

India is the fastest growing smartphone market and has welcomed the ease of digital money.

To provide financial services for all, the government provided bank accounts to every household. But millions of these accounts are untouched. This is because of the largely illiterate population, who have restricted use of their own accounts.

At 37% of the global total, India has the largest adult illiterate population, so we wanted to provide financial freedom to these 287 million people.

A simple app gives them control of their account, using the power of voice. Introducing Bolo, the first voice-activated payment app.
