Oil on Canvas
Oil on Canvas
The MV Rena oil spill was New Zealand’s worst maritime disaster. Greenpeace wanted to use it as a warning against the much greater threat posed by deep-sea oil drilling. Using actual dead birds and oil from Rena, we created a series of handmade prints to be used as street posters with a petition call. We also created a number of canvas artworks for galleries and pop-up exhibitions around the country. The price of entry? To sign the petition. We sent out prints as direct mail to celebrities and media, inviting them to the exhibition launch. Images of the prints were also aired in a TV commercial and web film.
