NYT Magazine Typefaces
NYT Magazine Typefaces
Design of a set of custom typefaces for The New York Times Magazine (47 fonts in total). Each category of fonts have a different set of references. The starting point for the Serif font is the Stephenson Blake metal typeface ‘Astree’ from French foundry Deberny & Peignot and also the New York Times Magazine masthead. The Slab fonts are a continuation of the magazines existing Stymie font but in a condensed format and with added personality. The Sans fonts are linked to the Industrial Grotesque types, with metal type specimen versions of Futura and Akzidenz fonts as loose models.
