No Rights. No Women
No Rights. No Women
We were approached by a group of Lebanese women fighting for women’s rights, to create a campaign for their new organisation. Under Lebanese law, men and women are not equal. For example, Lebanese women have no right to pass their nationality onto their children. Because men have more rights than women, we asked women to give up their womanhood. We aimed to engage the largest number of people with a simple act. Four weeks before International Women’s day, women became men online. On Facebook, women changed both their profile pictures and gender to become men. Hype was building up online until March 8th, when the movement hit the real world, and women dressed as men filled offices and workplaces around the city.
