Nintendogs takes the concept of the virtual pet and adds a whole new dimension of interaction. Players touch and speak to the dog that will in turn react realistically to this attention, an interaction unlike any other seen before on a games console. Nintendogs is an ideal pet for people who cannot own a real dog. The European version of the game comes in three different packages: Labrador Retriever, Miniature Dachshund, and Chihuahua. Each package has six different breeds of puppies at the start, giving a total of eighteen breeds to choose from, including Golden Retriever, Siberian Husky and Boxer. Each breed then has a litter of three different puppies, giving players a chance to pick the sex and characteristics of their puppy. The innovative software has expanded the gaming population by attracting new audiences, including women. Nintendogs has also made a significant impact across the globe, with sales in Europe reaching two million, one and a half in the US and over one million in Japan.
