Innovations: UK Pavilion, Aichi Expo, Japan
This project comprises of seven interactive installations at the UK pavilion for the Aichi Expo in Japan. Presented in an immersive interior space, each showcases striking technological innovations that have been inspired by the natural world. Within each, the narrative content is transformed from complex concepts into simple engaging digital installations using semiotic sensory interfaces. The protocol enables both the user and a surrounding group to quickly understand the basic concept, which is supported by dynamic text, graphic panels and ultimately the website. This system enables a very effective communication strategy and maximises visitor throughput. There were three million visitors to the pavilion in a six-month period. Extensive evaluation has shown that visitors leave the pavilion with a higher perception of the value and use of technology within the UK, which is implicitly embedded within the communication media.
