Elizabeth I (500 Years of Stories)
Elizabeth I (500 Years of Stories)
This poster is part of a campaign designed to increase footfall to Tate Britain by making the art feel relevant to people today. Instead of showing the art, it uses words to tell the story behind the piece, with the intention of leaving the viewer wanting to go and see the artwork for themselves. Self image has never had more relevance. The story of Elizabeth I is the story of self image. Painted before she decided to go for it alone, this portrait is nothing short of a glossy ad for a suitor. In that regard you could say that Elizabeth I was an early pioneer of the selfie.
