The Neue Zürcher Zeitung is one of the world’s oldest newspapers. Since its founding in 1780, the front page format has only changed a few times, for example in 2005, when it published its first colour picture. In 2012, NZZ faced one of its biggest challenges: going fully digital with its entire content. To inform a broad public about the new digital strategy, NZZ chose to surprise its readers on the newspaper’s very own front page, entirely written in binary code – the language of the internet. This is how Switzerland’s oldest and most respected newspaper went fully digital.
