Aomori Museum of Art
Aomori Museum of Art
The Aomori Museum of Art opened its doors in July 2006. Aomori is the northernmost prefecture on Japan's main island of Honshu. The museum is located outside the city of Aomori, close to an archaeological excavation site. The architecture was inspired by this site, combining the 'white cube' with rough earthen walls. <br/>The interplay of structure and nature is underlined by the 'forest' of neon signs, which are reflected in the snow that covers the landscape most of the year. The signage design was in keeping with the architecture, appearing rough yet functional. Everything from the biggest sign to single letters was constructed within the same simple grid just using verticals, horizontals and 45 degree angles.
