iOS 14

Award: Graphite Pencil

Graphite Pencil / Digital Design / Incremental / 2021

The challenge was to enhance everyday experiences while making apps more intelligent, personal, and private. iOS 14 brings redesigned, customisable widgets to the Home Screen. The App Library automatically organises apps. Siri and incoming calls feature compact designs, maintaining user context. Picture in picture shows video while using other apps. Messages offers new ways to stay connected and new Memoji styles. App Clips offer fast and convenient experiences. New features come to Maps, Home, Safari, Translate, and more. Privacy tools offer transparency and control over user data.

What did the judges have to say?

"iOS 14 updates the core experience of the iPhone with boundary-pushing personalisation and customisation features to push user experience to new levels of innovation. The new software includes a long list of improvements to widgets as a modular design system, Messages, Maps, the Music app, Siri, and more. Apple continues its quest to put privacy at the center of everything for users, with new protections for personal data and indicators that reveal just how often apps are accessing your device’s camera, microphone, or even the clipboard, improving performance and reliability."

Ratna Desai, Director of Product Design, Netflix
