Kikuchi Naruyoshi: Jazz

Award: Graphite Pencil

Graphite Pencil / Graphic Design / Posters (Graphic Design) / 2013

Naruyoshi Kikuchi is one of the most famous jazz musicians in Japan. He needed a poster to decorate Bureau Kikuchi, his new office. We wanted to visualise the dramatic reverberations of Kikuchi’s jazz performances. We chose ‘ripples of sparkle’ as a motif because ripples symbolise sound waves, jazz music suits night time, and the ripples on the black paper look like a loudspeaker. These posters were hung from the ceiling, waving in the wind. They looked different depending on the light around them.
