Plumen 001

Award: Black Pencil

Black Pencil / Product Design / Consumer Product Design / 2011

Rather than hiding the unappealing traditional compact fluorescent light behind boring utility, Plumen 001 was designed as an object the owner would want to show off. The glass tubes take an irregular yet harmonious form. The two organic shapes of the tubes mirror each other to create symmetry. The silhouette changes with every perspective, creating new interest at every angle. The Plumen bulb uses 80 per cent less energy and lasts eight times longer than incandescent bulbs. It is sold as a design object rather than a commodity, allowing premium materials and processes to be used to give the best possible quality of light.
