The Glory of Byzantium and Early Christendom

Award: Wood Pencil

Wood Pencil / Book Design / Book Front Covers / 2014

The graphic solution for the cover is based on the most represented symbol in Byzantine Art: the Christian Cross. It’s usually depicted in gold and can be found in mosaics, wall paintings, sculptures, textiles and manuscripts. On the cover, the typographic construction of a cross works as a powerful, iconic visual metaphor for the contents of the book that also symbolises the sumptuous luxury of the product in all its glory.
