There are thousands of homeless men, women and children in downtown Johannesburg. Most of them don't even have simple things like blankets to keep them warm. As part of the ‘Salvation Army Winter Appeal’ for 2005 it was decided to create a poster that will appeal not only to the public, but to the homeless too. Real blankets were used as posters rather than useless paper posters, with a message encouraging the homeless to use the blanket posters if and when needed. A few days after the blankets were put up in downtown Johannesburg most of them had been taken off by homeless. The Salvation Army was also approached by big businesses in the area wishing to donate blankets, warm clothes and money.
