Afghanistan’s First All-Female Orchestra
The Orchestra of St John is a charity that passionately believes music has the power to transform lives. It raised funds to bring Afghanistan’s first all-female orchestra to Oxford to support their music education. To thank all their supporters, the OSJ asked Williams Murray Hamm to create a commemorative poster. They designed a traditional handwoven rug incorporating the apparatus of war and depicting the orchestra’s incredible journey, and commissioned its production with a women’s charity from Kabul. It was photographed to create posters, which were sent in the same rubble sack that Afghan rugs are traditionally dispatched in.
