Invisible Solitude
With the Invisible Solitude project, Fundación BBK sought to raise awareness in society and governmental institutions about the problem of solitude in the elderly. The project aims to focus not only on the worst of the consequences, but also on the preceding years – a period marked by social abandonment and ‘living death’ for many senior citizens. A hyper-realistic sculpture of Mercedes, a woman from Bilbao who has been suffering this reality for years, was installed in a public place. It serves to represent all the elderly people invisible to society.
