Barclays Safe Spending
Challenged to design a tool that supports customer's mental health by taking control of their finances, Barclays Safe Spending was developed. Through research I discovered that overwhelming debt is often linked to mental health. For more insight, I spoke to a financial advisor, who stated, 'It is not hard dealing with bankruptcy. It is hard preventing it'. Further research I discovered Compulsive Spending Disorder (CBD) and that experts are currently pushing for its recognition as a mental health issue. With 24/7 access to online shopping, I was inspired to develop a tool for sufferers of CBD. Barclays Safe Spending, is a mobile app and desktop plug-in that occasionally intervenes when visiting e-commerce sites. Designed to empower customers to reflect before clicking pay now.
