After studying physics at Durham University, Dougal began his career at The Leith Agency, Edinburgh, as a copywriter. In 2001 he moved to London to begin directing through Blink. Since then he has directed commercials for clients including Orange, Olympus, Becks, Vodaphone, the BBC, Coca-Cola, Amnesty International, Hovis and John Lewis. He received D&AD Yellow Pencils in 2006 for his Orange ‘Dance’ ad, in 2008 for Big Yellow Storage, in 2010 for his Government Fire Safety commercial, and in 2011 for his music video for The Temper Trap.

Dougal has won Best Music Video Director at the British CADS twice and The Best Video of the Year at The Rushes Soho Shorts Festival also twice. His video for Bat For Lashes won the Best Video of 2007 at the Antville Music Video Awards and was nominated for an MTV award. His Coldplay video was nominated for an Emmy and his Goldfrapp ‘Happiness’ video for a D&AD Yellow Pencil. His other music videos include The Streets, Will Young, Basement Jaxx, Dizee Rascal, Benny Benassi and Jarvis Cocker.

His recent work includes a film for the 10:10 Climate Change campaign and the John Lewis ‘Long Wait’ Christmas commercial.
