As a firm believer in the power of good design, Stepan Azaryan considers that a designer should use their creativity in order to improve reality and to create change.
‘’Imagine to transform’’ is what he stands by, and aspires to achieve with his works on a daily basis.
After graduating from the Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts in 2004, Stepan has immersed himself in several aspects of design. In 2010 he has founded Backbone Branding of which he is the Creative Director.
Throughout the years Backbone has received numerous international awards such as the Dieline Awards, Marking Awards and several Pentawards including Platinum and Gold.
In 2019, Backbone Branding has been named Agency of the Year by the Pentawards making it the first in the region to be getting this title.
Backbone’s works have been featured on publications from around the world. Also in 2017, the packaging design for the ‘’Fish Club Wine’’ was selected as the cover project for ‘’The Package Design Book 5’’ by Taschen.
Given that design is a universal language, the team has several projects in Armenia as well as various parts of the world. Backbone Branding services include brand identity creation and development, packaging design and visual communication on different levels.
Being a jury member of packaging competitions such as the Pentawards and Marking Awards, Stepan acknowledges the big responsibility of this title and is honored and excited to be joining the D&AD panel this year.
