Dr. Roel Wijland worked for the Hakuhodo agency network and was a founding partner of indie agency BSUR in Amsterdam. He is currently the caretaker of The Brandbach, the University of Otago's award-winning creative industries specialisation, and the Diploma for Graduates Endorsed in Advertising, on New Zealand's awesome South island.
He is a supervisor for Masters and PhD students, and his postgraduate students have featured as new Zealand Marketing Student of the Year, and winners of the Australian Student Planning Idol. His performative poetic research portfolio is published in international journals, such as Marketing Theory, the Journal of Marketing Management, The European Journal of Marketing, Consumption, Markets & Culture and Qualitative Market Research. He has edited and published a series of poetry volumes as part of the Consumer Culture Theory conferences, and his film 'In Brutal Times' won the best film award at the ACR Festival in Baltimore in 2014. He is on research leave in Melbourne in the first half of 2018.
