Freelance Creative Director / Founder & Editor of The Parenteer

James’ advertising career began in New York City way back in the nineties, working for what was arguably the worst and dumbest ad agency of all time. From there, he spent a few years working for small and mid-sized agencies in Boston and Minneapolis.

Between 2003 and 2011, James was a Creative Director/Art Director at BBDO in New York, working on clients such as HBO, The Economist, AT&T, Havaianas, eBay, FedEx, Foot Locker, Twix, and many others.

In 2009, he was listed as the Most Awarded Art Director in the US, according to “The Big Won”, which tallies performance at all the big shows, and was named as a “Designer to Watch” by Graphic Design USA magazine. In 2011, James left BBDO to freelance and focus on the parody parenting newspaper he founded (and continues to write and design): The Parenteer (theparenteer.com).

He lives in New York City with his wife Lisa, and their two kids: Jimmy and Marcelle.
