Dave Crossland is lead operations manager for Google Fonts, and has commissioned thousands of fonts from hundreds of designers for dozens of writing systems; plus font editors, educational resources and live events around the world. He finds this field of type design endlessly fascinating, because it combines visual culture, language, technology, business, history – and is ubiquitous. As a student, he became inspired with the potential of advancing the libre software movement towards typeface design, and has been obsessed with this mission to liberate typography.
